February 2021 Newsletter: Report enhancements

What's New

  • View trays from reports. Click on an item on the To-Do List, Project To-Do List or Status by Project report to view its tray details without leaving the report.  It's now so much easier to move from one item to another, without losing your focus.  Based on your feedback, we'll extend this functionality to other frequently-used reports.
  • Edit own comments. Users can now edit their own previously posted comments by clicking the pencil icon when hovering on a comment. [Companies who do not wish to extend this capability to their users can disable it under Settings - Features to display - Other Features].
  • Managers can now edit project templates. Managers can now access and edit all project templates (from the 3-dot "More" menu at the top of the Task List). [Companies who do not wish to extend this capability to their users can disable it under Settings - Features to display - Other Features].
  • Workload Report enhancements
    • Companies that aren't using the Workload field will now see a count of the number of tasks assigned to each user in each time period, useful for balancing work among the team.
    • For those using the workload field, additional data can now be selected on the summary and individual user views, in addition to the default workload data -- # of assigned tasks, user capacity (hours/day), user availability (capacity minus workload) and utilization % (workload/capacity).
    • Workload and Utilization % total rows on individual pages are now color coded with different shades of red and green to quickly highlight users and time periods that are over- and under-allocated.
    • Switch from one user to another with the new drop-down menu at the top left of the individual user view.
    • Learn more about Workload Reports in the knowledge base
  • Additional enhancements
    • New project state -- Cancelled -- allows for tracking projects that are cancelled before reaching completion.
    • Request approvals on multiple files at once (from the same people and with the same deadline).
    • Recent Comments report -- "My Items" now shows comments on all items in projects for which the user is responsible, including tasks for which the user is not responsible.
    • Project List report - new filter for "Project Name or Project # contains"; can be used in combination with other filters (such as Project State = Completed).
    • When downloading a file with multiple versions, default now downloads only latest version (with option to include all versions).

Internet Explorer no longer supported in Workzone

As previously announced, as of February 1, 2021, Internet Explorer can no longer be used with Workzone, because of its lack of compliance with web standards, security vulnerabilities and the discontinuation of ongoing support by its creator Microsoft. Internet Explorer users should switch now to one of these modern, secure browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari (Mac).  See the knowledge base article for additional assistance.

What We're Working On / Exploring Now [target release]

  • Comment Reactions. Add a thumbs up, smile or other reaction emoji to a comment, as an alternative to a text comment. [Mar]
  • Personal To-do List. We all have items that we need to get done -- work and personal -- that we want to keep private for our own eyes. We're creating a personal to-do list to track these items. [Apr]
  • User homepage. A user-specific dashboard that shows tasks due soon, personal to-do's, recently viewed and favorite projects, and recent activity relevant to the user. [Apr]
  • Threaded comments. Currently each item has a single string of comments.  Frequently these comments can involve several distinct sub-topics, and it's very useful to be able to group these sub-topics into their own "threads", so that related comments stay together. [May]
