September 2021 Newsletter: Enhanced Reporting Dashboards

What's New

  • New report: "My Recent Assignments". Until now, it's been difficult to see all the tasks you were recently assigned. The new "My Recent Assignment" report shows all tasks for which you were recently made responsible. Users can select to have this report emailed to them each day when there are new assignments to view.
  • Enhanced reporting dashboards (requires Enterprise license). The original Dashboard page provides access to 8 dashboard widgets, which are largely fixed in what they display.  The new "Dashboards" section on the Reports left menu adds significant new functionality.
    • Create multiple custom dashboards, using any of 40 reports from the Reports Library like (screenshot), or get a jump start by using one of 11 pre-packaged dashboards in the Dashboards Library (screenshot), including projects, tasks, requests, approvals, and time tracking.
    • Reports and dashboards can be customized by date ranges, time increments, responsible, and category, including showing the same report multiple times using different filters
    • Click on a number in a table or a segment on a chart to see its underlying data
    • We've recently begun tracking approval close dates by person and request close dates.  We'll expose additional reports using this data in a year or so, once there's enough data to be useful.

  • Other enhancements
    • Image markup comments now have the same rich-text formatting editor that is available for non-markup comments.
    • The To-Do List now offers an option to filter and sort by "End Date only" instead of the default filters, which include Start Date and End Date (accessed on the Filters page).
    • By default, users are now prevented from adding time to tasks in completed or canceled projects (this can be allowed under Settings)
    • Filter My Timesheet by task category
    • The Workload reports now include a filter to show only the remaining work
    • The search box on the Requests Dashboard now indexes the names and email addresses of requesters, including public requesters
    • The API has been extended to allow pulling data on project requests
    • Task breadcrumbs can now be seen when mousing over an item link in the Notification Inbox and on-time report Excel exports
    • Select a continuous range of checkboxes on the Task List by holding the shift key while clicking the first and last checkbox in the range
    • On the existing Dashboard page, "On Track" is now blue for project and task status donut charts (previously was green for projects and gray for tasks)

What We're Working On / Exploring Now [target release]

  • Making an individual task billable/non-billable. Up until now, all tasks in a project were either billable or non-billable, based upon the setting for tasks set at the project level.  Now, you'll be able to set the billable/non-billable status for an individual task on the Task List (expose the "Billable" column) or via Edit Multiple. The project-level setting for task billable/non-billable, accessible from the add/edit project pages, now will apply only to newly-created tasks; it won't change the setting for existing tasks. This change should not affect any existing API calls for time reporting. [Oct]
  • User homepage. A user-specific dashboard that shows tasks due soon, personal to-do's, recently-assigned tasks, recently viewed and favorite projects, and recent activity relevant to the user. [Nov]
  • Board view. A graphical, drag-and-drop method for moving items across columns that represent the steps in a workflow, as an alternative to tracking work in hierarchical projects. [Dec]
  • Tasks without dates. Allow tasks without start or end dates.  [Jan]
  • Branching/conditional logic for custom request forms. Certain questions only appear if the respondent provides specific answers to other questions. [Feb]
  • Threaded comments. Currently, each item has a single string of comments.  Frequently these comments can involve several distinct sub-topics and can be useful to group these sub-topics into their own "threads", so that related comments stay together. [Mar]
